NOTICE :
ALL SEC 2S AND 3S, YOU ARE ALL REQUIRED TO DO THE SPEAKERS’ AND WRITERS’ BADGE.
Speakers’ Badge – Clause 1 & 2
1. Say from memory a short poem or passage of verse of her choice, lasting not less than one minute and not more than two minutes.
2. After a short time for preparation, read aloud a passage provided by the tester.
The test will be on this Friday, 4/3/11.
Writers’ Badge
1. Write an original story of one thousand to two thousand words.
2. Write one of the following:
2.1 A dramatic sketch taking at least 10 min to perform;
2.2 A short poem in recognized verse form.
2.3 An article or campfire yarn of not less than two hundred words;
2.4 An essay on her favourite hero or heroine.
(deadline is 7/3/11)
3. At the test, write:
3.1 A letter of at least two hundred words describing an incident she has enjoyed.
3.2 An exercise in punctuation given by the tester. (test will be during guides camp)
Note: The work submitted under clause 1 and 2 is to be sent to the tester beforehand; it should be neatly written or typed.

Attire: Full Uniform (Sec 1s are to wear PE)
Bring along handbook, songbook, small notebook and pen.
Flagpole: You should know who you are, any doubts, go and ask Wan Xin. Don’t assume.

Service Learning Guidelines
Guidelines on writing report for the SERVICE LEARNING REPORT
Service Learning Report should include:
Ø A cover page (Title – Service learning project and organisation, school name,
group members’ names, photo in background, etc.)
Ø Contents Page:
Ø Page 1 - Introduction of Service Learning Project
o Introduction about the organization of choice
o Describe your group objective which you hope to achieve at the end of the Project.
Ø Page 2 onwards – Details of planning for the Project
o Description of how the team did their project:
§ Include pictures to substantiate your write-up
§ Pre-event planning:
• E.g. Logistics involved, the roles of each of the members in the team
§ During the event:
• How did you carry out the programme/event planned?
• Who was present? (any support from your fellow guides/classmates/schoolmates, etc)
§ Post-event reflections:
• Learning points and review of programme and planning
o E.g. Improvement to service rendered, more time,
more man-power, etc.
o Feedback from teacher or the organization.
• Individual members’ reflections about the service and learning they got.
§ Any other follow-up events? Round 2 of programme. Carried out over a period of days.
Ø Summary page – Description of project and learning points. (summarized)
§ Table showing the breakdown of no. of hours spent in completing the service learning project (min. 30 hours) [ See Appendix A]
Ø Acknowledgements Page
o People who were involved in making the Project a success.
§ E.g. Organization, the people working at the organization, parents, teachers, schoolmates, classmates, etc.
o Any pictures or paragraphs of words taken from books or websites must be referenced.

Note:
1) You may have to visit the organization more than once to clarify plans and to execute a programme that is sustainable, and carried on next year by the Sec2s in the team.
2) A picture speaks more than a thousand words. Include as many pictures to help the reader understand the extent of your work and service learning project.
3) If objective is not met, then explain why and list out other learning points gained during the service learning period.
4) This guide is non-exhaustive. You may choose to be creative in your layout and description of your project.

For the upcoming thinking day next year, we have to do several tasks.
- INTER-UNIT BANNER DESIGN
Details :
1) Each Pack/Coy may send in more than one banner. The name of the Coy/Pack and School must be clearly indicated on the banner itself as well as on the top left hand corner of the back of the banner.
2) Banners should depict the WTD theme, “Gender equality and Empowering women.
3) Each banner (cloth or plastic) should come only in one standard size of 3.5m x 1m’ (vertical display). Banners in other dimensions will be disqualified.
4) All banners must have a margin of 10cm from the edges.
5) All banners MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY before they are submitted.
6) The top 3 Banners from each Division will be awarded prizes during the World Thinking Day Celebrations.
7) GGS may select certain appropriate banners for display at other events.
8) All decisions of the judges are final.

Details :
1) Each Pack/Coy to take a photo which captures the spirit of World Thinking Day and the WTD theme, “Gender Equality and Empowering Women.
2) Photographs in softcopy (jpeg) are to be submitted by Thursday, 20 January 2011, 5.00pm, at Guide House. Late entries will NOT be accepted.
3) The top 3 photographs will be selected from each Division and will be published on the GGS Website.
The top 3 photographs will be awarded prizes during the World Thinking Day Celebrations too.
4) All photographs (in a collage) will be displayed at Headquarters, website and at the venues on the day of the WTD celebrations.
5) All decisions of the judges are final.
